Shawl Knitting Pattern with Beads - Quietude Shawl

Having grown up in the countryside, I enjoy the quiet stillness of nature. Whenever I find myself in a new place, I like to take a walk and immerse myself in the surroundings, enjoying the fresh air and birdsong and taking in the beautiful scenery that nature has to offer.

Quietude is a shawl for those contemplative walks. Shaped with three panels, stockinette side panels highlight a centre of diamond lace which grows like a mountain coming into view on the horizon. A single bead at the bottom of each lace motif accentuates the border colour, like shiny pebbles dotted along the path. A classic ribbed border in a contrasting yarn adds a clear road to the end of your shawl. A solid colour for the body of the shawl is best, but the border can stand up to variegated yarns.

The border uses 1.75oz / 50g or 218yds / 200m of yarn. If you use a full skein for this section, you can use the remainder for the Quitetude cowl which has been designed to use the rest of your skein.

Measurements – The finished blocked item measures 70” (178cm) wingspan and 21” (53cm) in depth once blocked

• Yarn A: 437yd / 400m, 3.5 oz / 100g, 4-ply or fingering-weight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern pictures is Under the Olive Tree Silk and Merino Yarn (50% merino / 50% silk) in the Snow colour (1 skein)
• Yarn B: 218yd / 200m, 1.75 oz / 50g, 4-ply or fingering-weight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern pictures is Under the Olive Tree Silk and Merino Yarn (50% merino / 50% silk) in the Emerald colour (1 skein)
• 153 x size 6 (4mm) beads
• A 0.75mm crochet hook
• US size 5 (3.75mm) 32” (80cm) circular needle
• 2 stitch markers (optional: 18 contrasting markers for the lace repeats)
• Pins for blocking

Gauge

23 stitches and 32 rows to 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch after blocking
