Cabling without a Cable Needle

  • 2/2 LPC - 2 over 2 Left Purl Cross
  • 2/2 RPC - 2 over 2 Right Purl Cross
  • 2/2 LC - 2 over 2 Left Cross
  • 2/2 RC - 2 over 2 Right Cross

2/2 LPC 

How to Left Purl Cross a 2/2 Cable Without a Cable Needle

Worked over 4 stitches you will be crossing 2 stitches over 2 stitches to create a left slanting cable.

  1. Leaving the next 2 stitches on the left-hand needle, insert the RH needle tip into the back of the 3rd and 4th sts on the LH needle.
  2. Pinch the base of all 4 sts and slide them off the LH Needle.
  3. Take the LH needle tip and pick up the 2 dropped sts.
  4. Slip the 2 sts on the RH needle to the LH needle.
  5. P2, K2.

 

2/2 RPC 

How to Right Purl Cross a 2/2 Cable Without a Cable Needle

Worked over 4 stitches you will be crossing 2 stitches over 2 stitches to create a right slanting cable.

  1. Pinch the base of the next 4 sts and slide them off the LH Needle.
  2. Use the tip of the LH needle to reach behind and pick up the first 2 sts.
  3. Use the RH needle tip to pick up the 3rd and 4th sts, keeping them at the front. Then slip these 2 sts back to the LH needle.
  4. K2, P2.

2/2 LC 

How to Left Cross a 2/2 Cable Without a Cable Needle

Worked over 4 stitches you will be crossing 2 stitches over 2 stitches to create a left slanting cable.

1. Leaving the next 2 stitches on the left-hand needle, bring the right hand needle around the back and slip into the back the loops of the 2 following stitches.

2. Transfer these 2 stitches to the right hand needle by using your right thumb to hold the first 2 stitches in place and pulling the left hand needle out of all 4 stitches. 

3. Pick up the 2 live stitches with the left hand needle, and then transfer the other 2 stitches to the left hand needle too.

4. Knit these 4 stitches as normal and continue as per pattern.


2/2 RC 

How to Right Cross a 2/2 Cable Without a Cable Needle

Worked over 4 stitches you will be crossing 2 stitches over 2 stitches to create a right slanting cable.

1. Pinch the next 4 stitches together to hold them in place whilst you slide the left hand needle out of all 4 stitches.

2. Bring the left hand needle around the back of the stitches and pick up the second set of 2 stitches and place them on the needle.

3. Still pinching the first set of stitches, bring the left hand needle back round to the front and slide into the live stitches.

4. Knit these 4 stitches as normal and continue as per pattern.
