New Pattern Release and Knitalong! Bring out the Bunting
Posted on
I have a brand new pattern release! The Bring Out the Bunting shawl is now available to download directly from the website and Ravelry.
About this Pattern
Nothing evokes the feeling of Summer like seeing streets adorned with bunting. Whether it’s in readiness for a celebration or a good old-fashioned Summer fete, it’s always a joy when the sun comes out and the bunting goes up!
This half-circle shawl was inspired by the street parties of the Royal Jubilee in 2022. The simple shaping and body of stockinette stitch makes it a really nice project to showcase a colourful skein of yarn. Go as bold and bright as you like! When you reach the border, yarnovers and double decreases work together to create triangular pennants along the bottom of the shawl. The sections between are worked in garter stitch to showcase your smooth, colourful ‘bunting’ and to add a final flourish of texture!
When the daytime festivities spill over into long, cool evenings, you can wrap this light shawl around your shoulders to keep the chills away. And when the colder seasons creep in its versatile shape makes it perfect to wrap around as a scarf; a cheerful reminder of those warm, sunny days of Summer.

Thank you Test Knitters!
The pattern has been professionally tech edited by Julia Targett and was tested by a fantastic group of test knitters too!
Thank you Ewa, Fabiana, Fiona, Jacqueline, Nicola and Pat.
Here's what they had to say about this pattern:
‘I have enjoyed knitting this pattern, it was very relaxing with a nice and easy but pretty border and will definitely be knitting another! Also the pattern is very good for showing off the yarn as not much stitch pattern so the colours of the yarn can show and add extra interest’ – Nicola
‘This pattern was very easy that a beginner could do this and enjoy a very pretty Shawl’ – Pat
‘Yet another lovely knit from Jem at under the olive tree knits , well structured with the eyelet edging and the lovely bunting effect around the crescent shape of the shawl, a lovely knit for the summer’ – Jacqueline
‘The pattern was relaxing to knit with a large section of stocking stitch. The lace border pattern was straightforward to follow and produces an interesting lace section. Highly recommend this shawl!’ - Fiona
And a big thank you also goes to Fabiana for inspiring the Bougainvillea colourway! Fabiana sent me a photograph of the pretty plant that she had taken on holiday.
Bougainvillea makes me think of sunshine, summer, holidays and good times, so it was the perfect match for the Bring out the Bunting shawl!
You can buy a skein of Bougainvillea from the website: https://www.undertheolivetreeknits.com/ourshop/prod_7667100-4-ply-Sock-Yarn-Bougainvillea.html
Until next time, Happy Knitting!
