A Harvest Moon is one that occurs closest to the beginning of Autumn and it’s when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Traditionally this was the time that the farmers harvested their Summer crops, working late into the night to make the most of the abundant moonlight.
The Harvest Moon shawl is a one skein asymmetric shawl which sees a single ‘yo, ssk’ stitch take hold to grow rows of pretty lace. The lace columns cut their way through fields of smooth stockinette, creating rays that point to the lace border. The sections work together to allow the final lace to flourish and bloom as it reaches the edges of the shawl.
Once you have worked the last row, it’s time to reap the benefits of all your hard work as you harvest your stitches and cast them off.
Harvest Moon is part of the ‘Shades of…’ range, a collection of shawl patterns and semi-tonal silk and merino yarns. Mix and match any of the patterns and yarns in this collection to create your next project! Visit the website to find out more.

Thank you Test Knitters!
The pattern has been professionally tech edited by James Bartley and was tested by a fantastic group of test knitters too!
Thank you Sharon, Lila, Jaynie and Caroline.
Here's what they had to say about this pattern:
"This is a lovely and relaxed knit with just the right amount of variety to keep your interest. The lace repeats are easy to memorise meaning this will fly off the needles"– Caroline
"Harvest Moon Shawl is another lovely shawl by Jemma Arrowsmith. The pattern is well written and easy to follow. I would recommend it to a beginner wanting to try knitting lace or an experienced knitter wanting to make a shawl with lace inserts" - Lila
I hope you like the new pattern!
