Shawl Knitting Pattern for Sport Yarn - Lake Louise Shawl

This shawl was inspired by a winter trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada a few years ago. One of the many highlights of the holiday was snowshoeing across a frozen, and snow-covered, Lake Louise. The scenery was beautiful, of course, but so was the new terrain we were creating and I loved making paths of deep, snowy footprints into the smooth expanse of pristine snow.

The top-down triangle is worked in sportweight yarn for a large and cosy shawl that is perfect for winter strolls, whether on a frozen lake or on solid ground! Single and double yarnovers create tracks of large eyelets through the sweep of pure stockinette. This 8 row repeat lace pattern is fun to work, and the same stitch pattern is used for the both the columns and the border of the shawl. Choose a solid or semisolid colourway to let the lace shine.

Stitches Used: Knit, purl, slipped stitches, m1l, m1r, single and double yarnovers, k2tog, ssk

Measurements: The finished blocked shawl measures 70” (178cm) wingspan and 37” (94cm) deep at the longest part

Materials Used:

• 2 x 3.5oz / 100g, 286 yds / 262m skein of sportweight yarn. The yarn used in the pattern is Under the Olive Tree Sport Yarn – 100% superwash Merino in the Snow colourway
• 1 x US size 8 (5mm) 32-40” (80-100cm) circular needle
• 1- 19 stitch markers (depending on whether you wish to mark off the pattern repeats)

Gauge: 17 stitches and 22 rows to 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch after blocking
